Three heavy-hitters in pop music drop new albums and songs that reflect the state of the world today.

First is American goth-metal band Evanescence set to release “The Bitter Truth,” their first album of original music in nine years. The last time singer-pianist Amy Lee and the rest of Evanescence released material was in 2017 with “Synthesis,” which only took tracks from previous albums. It was repurposed sonically; more like an experimental in-between phase completely different from the sound of “Bring Me To Life” and “My Immortal” in 2003.

Evanescence’s new single is “Wasted On You.” It is a slow burning, minor-key ballad that starts with piano accompaniment before kicking in the rest of the band into the song. The execution is akin to precision hard rock machine that can turn on a dime. The track reminds us of that Motley Crue hit “Home Sweet Home” from 1985. Mayhaps Lee was inspired by those beloved rascals?

“’Wasted On You’ wasn’t the song we were planning to release first, but when the whole world went into indefinite lockdown and everything changed, so did the feeling and meaning of what we wanted to say right now. I didn’t write these lyrics about what we’re all now going through, but somehow that’s exactly what they are,” Lee said in an interview.

The rest of the tracks from “The Bitter Truth” will be released incrementally throughout 2020.

John Legend has released “Bigger Love” meant to “celebrate Black culture and pride.”

In an interview, Legend said, “It’s important for us to continue to show the fullness of what it is to be black and human. Through our art, we are able to do that. I’m under no illusion that music can save the world or solve the world’s problems, but I’ve always turned to music to help me through tough times and I know many of you have done the same.”

This album comes as protests in America and the issue of #Blacklivesmatter dominates the news alongside those about the COVID-19 pandemic.  The title track is a groove-centric track that mixes R&B, world music beats and dance.

16-tracks make up the new album. John collaborates with blues guitarist Gary Clark, Jr., Rapsody, Jhene Aiko, and Coffee and Camper on some of them.

Trust to have a party with Black Eyed Peas music. The trio returns with album “Translation” bannered by the pulsing single “NO MAÑANA” featuring Dominican trap artist El Alfa.

Will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap’s new venture has 16-tracks and also include collaborations with “Shakira” (“Girl Like Me”), Tyga and Nicky Jam (“Vida Loca”), Becky G (“Duro Hard”), French Montana (“Mabuti”) and more. The album closer is a “provocative and powerful observation of life in 2020” as heard on a folky-hiphop mash song called “News Today.”
