K-pop quartet BLACKPINK made their much-awaited return to the music scene on June 26 with “How You Like That,” a single released ahead of their first full-length album due to drop in September.
The music video for “How You Like That” had a premiere on YouTube, attracting about 1.43 million viewers.
An hour before the song’s release at 6PM KST (5PM in Manila), Lisa, Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé held a live countdown on Naver V Live and YouTube to greet Blinks around the world.
During a global press conference for the song that was streamed on YouTube, BLACKPINK discussed the song and comeback, and their collaborations with international artists including Lady Gaga.
It’s been one year and two months since BLACKPINK released “Kill This Love” and fans around the world clamored for their comeback.
“Starting with ‘How You Like That,’ and the regular album, we hope to greet the fans more regularly. I hope everyone loves the songs, enjoys the music and the music video,” said Jennie about BLACKPINK’s goals this year.
Jisoo said they “put in a lot of effort into the song ‘How You Like That.’ Please look forward to it.”
They were asked why people around the world are paying attention to BLACKPINK’s content and Lisa explained that “we’re trying to put in our colors in each album. And we’ve shown various aspects of BLACKPINK such as fashion, styling and stage elements.”
Jennie said, “Styling plays really an important role in expressing music. We worked until we became satisfied.”
Through their music, BLACKPINK have set various records including last November when their ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ music video reached 1 billion views on YouTube, the first K-pop group to achieve it in a single MV.
“Whenever we hear about these things, we feel more responsible. We try to bring out positive energy to people out there. To all people who love our music, I hope they love themselves and be proud of themselves and be very confident,” said Rosé.
Last month, Lady Gaga featured BLACKPINK in her song “Sour Candy” and Jennie said it was an honor to work with her.
“In the beginning, we had a call with her and spoke with her on the phone. She said she loves the color and unique characteristics of BLACKPINK. We are very glad to do the collaboration with her because we were huge fans of Lady Gaga even before our debut. It was really fun working with her. We really appreciate the great chance that we had,” Jennie revealed.
BLACKPINK will have a comeback performance of “How You Like That” on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on June 26 (US time).
