K-pop superstars BTS’ “Butter” slid from first to fourth place on Billboard Hot 100 this week, ending the idol group’s successful 10-week consecutive reign on the chart.
According to Billboard, the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 for the Aug. 14-dated chart is “Stay” by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, which rose to the top from fourth last week.
This week, “Butter” is No. 4 on the Hot 100 but is still No. 1 on Digital Song Sales, its 10th week on top, with sales of 79,200, down 30 percent from 112,900 last week.
The Billboard Hot 100 chart is based on US streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales.
For 10 straight weeks from June 5 to Aug. 7, BTS ruled the Hot 100. “Butter” became No. 1 on the chart for nine weeks while “Permission to Dance” was No. 1 for one week on the July 24-dated chart.
For the Aug. 7-dated chart, BTS’ “Butter” garnered 30.5 million radio airplay audience impressions as of July 29, a decrease of 1 percent from last week’s 30.7 million; and 8.1 million US streams, down by eight percent from last week’s 8.8 million US streams. “Butter” sold 112,900, a decrease of two percent from last week’s 115,600.
When “Butter” became No. 1 on the Hot 100 for the ninth time last week, it set a new record this year for the most number of times at No. 1 on the chart, surpassing Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License,” which spent eight weeks on top of the chart.
In addition, when “Permission to Dance” replaced “Butter” on top of Hot 100 on the July 24-dated chart, Billboard reported that “BTS is the first act to displace itself at No. 1 with a new leader and then send the previous No. 1 back to the summit with no other acts holding the top spot in between.”
