Korean actor Jang Ki-yong, 29, who recently starred in the drama “My Roommate Is a Gumiho,” enlisted in the military on Aug. 23.

He entered the Korean Army training center to undergo basic military training before fulfilling his service as an active duty soldier.

Before his enlistment, Jang Ki-yong posted a photo and letter on his Instagram account on Aug. 23 to bid goodbye to fans. The photo showed him with short hair and the trimmings are on his face and shoulder.

“Thanks to those who have loved and supported me, I was able to spend my 20s happily. Thank you very much. I will return strong and healthy for another wonderful 30s. Thank you to everyone and I love you,” he posted.

YG Entertainment announced last July 26 that Jang Ki-young would be enlisting in the military after finishing the filming of his upcoming drama

“Jang Ki-yong will complete the filming for the drama ‘Now, We Are Breaking Up’ and enlist in the military on Aug. 23,” it said, adding that “to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the place and time of enlistment will not be disclosed. Please cheer for Jang Ki-yong to complete his military service diligently and come back in good health.”

Jang Ki-yong and Lee Hyeri recently starred in “My Roommate Is a Gumiho,” which aired from May to July.

For “Now, We Are Breaking Up,” he is paired with actress Song Hye-kyo. The drama will air starting in November.

Jang Ki-yong started as a fashion model in 2012 and debuted as an actor in the drama “It’s Okay, That’s Love” in 2014. His other drama credits include “The Greatest Marriage,” “Beautiful Mind,” “Confession Couple,” “Come and Hug Me,” “Touch Your Heart,” “Search: WWW” and “Born Again.”
