Piolo Pascual (right) and son Iñigo

Our cast of “Niña Niño,” a teleserye airing weekdays on TV5, was surprised when we were visited by our producer, premiere actor Piolo Pascual fondly called by the whole Philippines as Papa P.

Twelve years ago, the multi-awarded actor founded Spring Films together with director Joyce Bernal and talent manager Erickson Raymundo. Their maiden project was “Kimidora” starring Eugene Domingo. The film as a hit which made Eugene Domingo a star and Spring Films as one of the leading productions in the film industry, collaborating with several media moguls in various projects.

I am fortunate to be part of this collaboration of Spring Films, Cignal Tv and Cornerstone Studios, “Nina Niño,” which gave me a chance to interview Papa P. It has been around 10 years since I have last seen Piolo. Our last project together was a concert in Europe and when I saw him, I was starstrucked all over again.

Piolo still looked the same or if I may say, he even grew more handsome. What’s his secret? But the actor-producer was not interested to talk about himself. He was more interested to talk about his one and only son Iñigo Pascual who at the time was about to leave the Philippines for the United States. “Inigo got the role. He will fly with Erickson to the States next week. Don’t announce it yet baka ma pre-empt. I am so proud of him.”

I guess it’s safe to write about it now that Piolo and Cornerstone have announced that Iñigo will be joining the cast of Monarch, an upcoming musical drama series produced by Fox studios and will be aired in the Fox channel.

The singer-actor will portray the role of Ace Grayson, a talented teenager adopted from an orphanage by his foster mom Nicky played by Anna Friel. If you have watched the Hollywood movie “Limitless” starring Bradley Cooper and Robert de Niro, Friel plays the ex-wife of Bradley here.

In this musical drama series, Friel’s mother is Susan Sarandon. That means our beloved Filipino actor Iñigo will have for his grandmother THE SUSAN SARANDON!! If I was placed face to face with the Susan Sarandon, I will just venerate at her feet for winning the Academy Award and Screen Actors Guild award for best actress in Dead Man Walking. I would just blab on how many times I have watched Thelma and Louise and how she made me cry so much in the film Little Women.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the musical drama is created by Melissa London Hilfers. ‘Monarch’ is described as a Texas-sized, multigenerational musical drama about America’s first family of country music, the Romans. The Romans are headed by the insanely talented, but tough as nails Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman (Sarandon). Along with her beloved husband, Albie (Adkins), Dottie has created a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette “Nicky” Roman (Friel) will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.”

Congratulations Iñigo for reaching the Hollywood dream. “Monarch” will debut midseason for Fox on Jan. 30, 2022 immediately after the NFC Championship game, with the show’s second episode airing on Feb. 1.
