Shock rocker’s nomination for Best Rap Song category at the upcoming 64th Grammy Awards was removed after revision.
Marilyn Manson’s courted controversy anew when he was nominated for a pair of high-profile categories at the Grammy Award despite being under an ongoing sexual assault investigation.
But Manson, real name Brian Hugh Warner, has since been removed from one of his nominations as reported by the New York Times.
Manson, who’s credited as a songwriter and performer on Kanye West’s “Jail Pt. 2” track for Best Rap Song was taken off the category after the Recording Academy revised their nominations list late this week.
The Kanye West / Jay-Z song collaboration titled “Jail” was installed as a nominee after the update.
But Manson “is still credited as a songwriter and featured artist on “Donda,” up for Album of the Year, making the shock rocker eligible for that award should West’s latest album win that category,” wrote Rolling Stone.
More than a dozen women have come forward to accuse the shock rocker of psychological and sexual abuse and Lawsuits against Manson have been filed.
“Outcry from both Manson and Louis C.K. (up for Best Comedy Album) being nominated for Grammys despite the allegations of sexual misconduct against them” have been hot issue that the Recording Academy had to address.
This prompted Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. to issue the following statement.
“We won’t look back at people’s history, we won’t look at their criminal record, we won’t look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, is this recording for this work eligible based on date and other criteria. If it is, they can submit for consideration. What we will control is our stages, our shows, our events, our red carpets. We’ll take a look at anyone who is asking to be part of that, asking to be in attendance, and we’ll make our decisions at that point. But we’re not going to be in the business of restricting people from submitting their work for our voters to decide on,” Mason, Jr. said.
