Filipino-American pop star Olivia Rodrigo was recently named TIME’s Entertainer of the Year for 2021.

On their official website, the American news magazine’s Senior Editor Lucy Feldman said the 18-year-old singer-songwriter was chosen for her charm as an artist.

“Rodrigo has a gift for picking the best of the past—whether a well-worn shirt, the faded feedback of a guitar or the intensity of first love—and finding just the right way to situate it in the present. Her songs have hit with audiences of all ages, in large part because she renders adolescence so viscerally: she’s resentful, seething, crushed, itching to just grow up already,” she said.

Meanwhile, Olivia couldn’t be prouder with her latest milestone.

In fact, on Instagram, she shared her two cents about it.

“I’ve gotten to do some crazy things this year but this one feels particularly surreal. thank u @time !!! entertainer of the year !!!!!!,” she wrote.

Olivia is known for her roles as Paige Olvera on the Disney Channel series “Bizaardvark” and Nini Salazar-Roberts on the Disney+ mockumentary series “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.”

She signed with Interscope and Geffen Records in 2020 and released her debut single, “Drivers License” the following year, which quickly topped various charts worldwide and gave her a breakthrough.

It was followed by successful singles “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U,” leading up to the release of her debut studio album, “Sour,” to critical acclaim.

Olivia since then earned seven Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year for “Sour,” and Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Drivers License.”
