An 80’s inspired tour requires a gem-of-a-song from said era. And John Mayer thought right that a Tears For Fears classic would do it.
In a recent stop of his Sob Rock tour at the TD Garden in Boston, John covered “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.”
Mayer had rising music artist Alexander 23 sing and play guitar on said cover while he played back up lead guitar.

Tears For Fears meanwhile acknowledged the musical nod with a post on their official Instagram saying, “BIG shout to both @alexander23 and @johnmayer for pulling out Everybody Wants to Rule the World on their tour. Absolutely honoured to have you cover the tune.”
Chicago-bred singer-songwriter-producer and multi-instrumentalist Alexander 23, joined the Sob Rock tour last February. The music act took to his own socials to share his excitement.
“If you know me at all, you know how much this means to me. Thank you, John Mayer, for being so gracious on and off the stage. It was an honor to share the road with you and your all-star band…Tears For Fears on the Sob Rock tour. A fitting end to something I never wanted to end.”
John’s most recent album “Sob Rock” is notable for its 80’s tinged sounds and aesthetic.
