Prince of Teleserye Theme Songs Bryan Termulo is back doing his first love: singing!
This time, however, Bryan is doing a different genre of music. He’s singing an upbeat and lively song entitled “Heart That You Break” written by Darren Fewins and Thomas Justin Williams.
The move to try something unfamiliar was for him a bit scary at first, but the realization that he has the potential to grow in a different genre fueled his desire to venture into something new and different.
“It’s my personal choice to change the genre for this project. I was told bakit hindi mo subukan na magkaroon ng upbeat song para naman maiba? At lagi nilang sinasabi na andito ka na sa America so dapat magtunog America ka na rin,” said Bryan during a Zoom with the entertainment media recently.
Bryan is currently based in the US. He was supposed to launch his singing career abroad, but there was a change of plan due to the pandemic.
“Supposedly I have three contracts sa restaurants sa California, but things changed because nagkaroon na ng Covid. My first project was a Valentine show, a mini concert. So I asked for an update sabi nila standby lang daw muna ako kasi nagla-lockdown sa US. A week after that, sinabi nila sa akin, sorry na-cancel lahat ng show mo.

“So nagbago na talaga lahat ng plan. I decided to stay in the US. Iniisip ko rin bumalik sa Pilipinas, Pero ganun din sa Pilipinas, naglockdown din. So nagstay na lang ako rito sa America while waiting na mag-improve ang situation.
“Parang third quarter ng 2021 doon na lang nagstart yung mga inquiry na puwede na magshow. Hindi pa 100 percent yung capacity ng mga venue pero puwede na. So nagsimula na akong magshow muli.
“In 2020, I was planning to release a single. My plan was pagmagstart na ako ng bagong career sa US, gusto ko may bago na akong single. Kaso wrong timing talaga ang Covid. Sabi ko kailan ngayong 2022 may mangyari na sa kasi it’s been a while. Almost five years na akong walang song. Ako talaga ang nagreach out sa mga producers na I want something different. Kung mapapakinggan nyo na yung song, hindi siya the usual Bryan Termulo song na the Prince of Teleserye Theme Songs. This time it’s totally different,” he said.
Moving to the US in 2020 was among the major changes that happened to him and was never an easy journey. He moved to a foreign country, adjusted to a new culture, had a career hiatus, had projects put on hold – all these and more brought his spirit down and broke his heart.
“It’s about time to do something that I haven’t done before. I am apprehensive but at the same time confident with the change because I have people around me who support me and are honest enough in giving me constructive feedback.”
When Bryan listened to “Heart That You Break,” he first fell in love with the melody and his emotions has grown deeper after he soaked up the lyrics and its message. Bryan relates to the song not because he came from a romantic breakup, but mainly because everything has taken its toll on him.

But Bryan is hopeful and says, “I choose to move forward, I have to face my heartbreak head-on, and no matter what life throws at me, I will remain strong.”
“It’s true what the song lyrics says, “You can’t take back a heart that you break” but you can definitely choose to stay strong and move on. And yes, that is the kind of refreshing feeling he enjoys while singing this song. It’s like the melody is seeping into his skin that it invigorates his body and the lyrics sheds light to a future that is within reach.
Bryan is thrilled that the live music scene is finally back in the US.
“Minsan nagla-livestream ako sa mga fans ko pero iba pa rin talaga yung nagpe perform sa live audience. Kaya nung bumalik ako sa pagkanta, medyo kinabahan ako kasi hindi ko alam kung magaling ba ako that time? Sa virtual kasi nadadaya mo. Pero awa ng Diyos, tuloy-tuloy na so far. I have invitations na rin sa New York, Missouri, California, at Las Vegas.
“Unang salang ko uli was Dec 2021, nanibago ako. Sa virtual ang ganda ng suot mo sa taas pero sa baba, naka-shorts ka lang. Parang nag-start ka uli sa zero but it was fulfilling because bumalik ka na sa what you really love doing the most. Na miss ko talaga yung sigawan ng audience, palakpakan nila. Then kumakanta ka habang nagi-interact sila,” said Bryan.
Following his journey on GMA’s Pinoy Pop Superstar, Season 3 in 2007, there were several changes in his career. He joined ABS-CBN and became famous for singing theme songs of several Filipino TV series. Teleserye theme songs are among the essential element of a good TV series, and Bryan never fails to warm the hearts of every teleserye fan with his songs that bring out emotions and fondness. That’s how he gained the title “Prince of Teleserye Themesongs”.
He has made a significant mark in the teleserye arena that people often associate him with teleserye theme songs. But his new single is a surprise to his fans because he leaped into a new genre.
“I have established myself in singing teleserye theme songs, so anytime puwede ko naman balikan iyan. Kaya sinubukan ko muna ang ibang genre ng music,” Bryan said.
Watch out for Bryan’s performance, and he will transport you to a new level of hope and will make you strive to rise above adversity.
His music video for “Heart That You Break” was shot in different locations in California (Malibu and Santa Monica) by a Hollywood production team based in Los Angeles.
His official lyric video is now available on his YouTube Channel. “Heart That You Break” is now available on Spotify and Apple Music or wherever you stream your music.
