Mon Legaspi, a respected Filipino rock musician, died last night, October 3, of cardiac arrest.

He was 54.

His passing was announced by his band The Dawn on their official social media account the same night.

“It is with deep, deep sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our brother Mon Legaspi,” the post read. “He joined our Creator earlier tonight due to cardiac arrest. Mon fought hard in the ICU and we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of a supremely professional musician, and a dear friend. Our sincerest condolences to his family and his brothers in Wolfgang and Kontra. We ask respect for the privacy of Mon’s family in this painfully difficult time.”

Mon started his music career as bassist-songwriter for Wolfgang.

Their self-titled debut record is among most successful of its era.

Mon would go on to play in other bands, including The Dawn.
